Cartuja E-city Exhibition Center
Sevilla, Spain
Educational
Project Description:
The Cartuja E-city Exhibition Center was conceived as a strategic intervention that recovers and transforms the structures of the former Expo '92 Europe Pavilion, located in the heart of Isla de la Cartuja. The proposal is based on a clear premise: to reuse what already exists as a sustainable, heritage, and symbolic gesture, linking the past, present, and future in the same space.
The original structures of the pavilion were maintained, respecting their geometry and constructional character, and adapted to house a new exhibition program linked to innovation, energy, and digital transformation. This operation made it possible to reduce the environmental impact of the work, optimize resources, and activate an underutilized space with a new public vocation.
The intervention focused on the functional adaptation of the building, incorporating efficient air conditioning systems, natural lighting, universal accessibility, and low-impact construction solutions. The architectural language was updated with a light envelope, contemporary graphic elements, and a spatial narrative that connects with the values of the Cartuja E-city project: sustainability, technology, and collaboration.
This project consolidated a new exhibition hub in Seville, which not only revitalizes an emblematic structure from Expo '92, but also projects it into the future as an active space for dissemination, innovation, and citizen engagement.
